Natural gas industries

Gathering, transport, storage, CNG, LNG

Many industries depend on natural gas for power generation, transportation, domestic use, the production of fertilizer and many other products. Natural gas must be collected from its source, transported within pipeline systems to its end user, and often stored in the ground to meet peak demands. In some cases, it is cooled to a liquid (LNG - liquefied natural gas) and placed in tankers for transportation overseas or compressed to form CNG – (compressed natural gas) for automobile fueling stations. Regardless of its form or method of transportation, natural gas must undergo compression. Reciprocating compressors are commonly used in natural gas handling. Reliability and efficiency are guaranteed here through the use of valves, rings and packings or controls, as well as the extensive range of compressor services, provided by HOERBIGER.

Gas transport and gas storage

There are a large number of compressors at various points along the thousand miles of pipelines in the USA and Canada, which facilitate the transport of gas. Many such compressors are 'integral machines', where the engine and compressor share the throws on the same crankshaft. Closer to the source, gas is gathered using smaller, high-speed separable compressors that are coupled to a gas engines. HOERBIGER has developed specific products for high-speed compressors. One example is the CT valve for compressors – with over 350,000 manufactured to date, it is the most produced compressor valve for natural gas – as well as gas dosing valves, such as the HyperFuel Valve for gas engines, which allow for much better and cleaner combustion.
