Petrochemical and chemical industry

The petrochemical industry forms the link between the oil and chemical industries. They process specific fractions of the crude oil distillation into raw petrochemical products, which can be transformed into a wide range of end products by the chemical industry. For example: petrol and diesel fuels, lubricants, plastics and synthetic materials, fertilisers, sulphuric acids, detergents, and pharmaceuticals. This is why petrochemical and chemical plants are often located close to a refinery.
